I’m not a career politician. I’m an engineer and businessman. Engineers are trained to look at problems, understand the facts, and build solutions that last. That’s the kind of leadership El Paso needs today.
My campaign is built on a simple idea: Use common sense. Ask tough questions, listen to the answers get to the truth, and focus on solutions. My top priority will always be the protection of El Paso’s taxpayers. They, not politicians, are the source of our economy, our culture and our future.
El Paso homeowners carry the highest property tax burdens in Texas for cities of our size, and that burden continues to grow while families struggle with the rising costs of living. I believe city government must start living within its means, just as El Paso families do every day.
For too long, taxpayers have been asked to fund expensive, non-essential projects while essential city needs continue to compete for limited resources. Before we spend public dollars on new attractions or subsidized developments, we need to focus on what matters most: public safety, reliable infrastructure and the services that residents depend on every day.
As your City Council representative, I am prepared to make difficult decisions and work with my colleagues to eliminate wasteful spending, prioritize essential services, pursue responsible budgeting, and reduce the tax burden on our homeowners, renters and small businesses. El Paso taxpayers deserve a city government that puts their needs ahead of unnecessary spending.
With El Paso homeowners and small businesses already burdened with the highest property taxes in Texas, now is not the time for the City government to promote and fund costly vanity or entertainment projects. I do not support using taxpayers’ dollars for a discretionary, multi-million-dollar project while we continue to face funding challenges involving our streets, public safety, and many other essential city services.
I do not support funding this project with a public-private partnership. These arrangements generally benefit a small number of private investors and burden hundreds of thousands of homeowners and small business owners with higher taxes.
My position is simple. Until we reduce the financial burden on El Paso’s families and fully fund our most pressing needs, public funds should remain focused on necessities, not luxuries.
I oppose the 1.3-billion-dollar comprehensive plan to widen Interstate highway I-10. This project will create years of disruption for working families, small businesses, and commuters who rely on I-10 every day. Many residents have voiced concerns about the project’s impact on our neighborhoods, traffic patterns, and quality of life. Those concerns deserve to be heard and respected.
There are local portions of I-10 where traffic delays occur daily due to chronic congestion. Widening of I-10 or other design remedies should be focused on those areas and not on the portions of I-10 where there is little or no congestion or delays. For example, the downtown portion between North Kansas and Santa Fe is known for its lack of congestion and smooth traffic flow.
I believe it is not too late to refocus the project on well-known problem areas before construction begins. As a private citizen I have contacted the U.S. Department of Transportation and requested that they reconsider their support for the project. I will work with the members of the City Council to do the same. El Paso needs leadership that is willing to ask hard questions, challenge assumptions, and advocate for solutions that better serve our community.
One of the reasons why El Paso is recognized nationally as one of the safest cities in the United States is the dedication of our police officers, firefighters, and first responders. We must continue to provide them with the resources, staffing, and support they need to keep our community safe.
Public safety is the most important responsibility of local government, and it should remain a top budget priority. I support directing city resources toward police, fire protection, emergency response, and crime prevention before spending taxpayer dollars on non-essential projects.
By eliminating wasteful spending, avoiding unnecessary debt, and focusing city budgets on core responsibilities, we can strengthen public safety while we also work to reduce the tax burden on our homeowners.
Protecting families and protecting taxpayers are not competing goals. With sensible policies, we can do both.
Many El Paso residents have raised serious and legitimate concerns about the rapid growth of large-scale data centers in our region. Questions involving water consumption, electric infrastructure, utility costs, environmental impacts, and long-term community effects deserve answers.
The proposed Meta facility, the Fort Bliss data center proposal, and the large-scale developments in New Mexico have created uncertainty for many families who want assurance that their interests will be protected.
Some believe local government has limited authority to address these concerns. I disagree.
As a City Council member, I will use every available oversight tool to protect our community.
That includes exercising oversight involving water utility decisions, advocating against policies that place additional burdens on our ratepayers, scrutinizing permitting processes, and ensuring that utility customers are not forced to subsidize private corporate interests.
Our residents have united across political and ideological lines because they understand what is at stake. City Hall should stand with the community and demand accountability, transparency, and responsible growth that protects our natural resources and our quality of life.
El Paso’s financial challenges did not emerge overnight. For decades, our city has relied heavily on debt financing, including debt that voters never directly approved, to fund projects that often failed to address our most pressing needs.
The result is a city carrying substantial debt obligations while homeowners and small businesses continue to face rising tax burdens.
Did you know that 12 years after the Chihuahua’s ballpark opened, we are still subsidizing it with our tax dollars? That is an example of the irresponsible public policy that has led us to where we are today, and I intend to stop these give-aways.
We cannot change the policy decisions made in the past and their resulting legal agreements, but we can change the decisions we make going forward.
As your city representative, I will demand greater accountability, ask the difficult questions, and insist that every spending decision be evaluated through one simple lens: Does it improve essential services and reduce the burden on taxpayers?
Our priorities should be clear. Streets should come before amenities. Public safety should come before vanity projects. Fiscal responsibility should come before additional debt.
By focusing on responsible budgeting, debt reduction, and essential city services, we can begin building a stronger financial future for El Paso and provide real relief for our hardworking homeowners.
